Botswana’s Famous Pans

Once a huge lake, the Makgadikgadi Pan is now a number of pans interspersed with grassland and surrounded by the great Kalahari sand semi-desert.

The countryside over our 300km journey east of Maun was dry n dusty, so I thought Sua Pan would be dry. As I drove into Nata Sanctuary it seemed I was right:

– dry pans –
– dry grassland –

Ostrich, wildebeest and dry country birds on the dusty road. Larks, Pipits, Sparrow-larks, Chats.

But I was wrong. The pan held lots of water. Whattasight from afar!

– panorama NE edge of Sua Pan –

Lovely outing. Lazybum Jess dipped out, choosing to lie in and then enjoy a 9am brekker.
